HOMEOPATHY FOR LYME DISEASE

HOW HOMEOPATHY CAN HELP IN CASES OF LYME DISEASE

WHAT IS LYME DISEASE?

The name is from a town in Connecticut called Lyme, which is where the first cases were identified for the first time.

The disease is originally transmitted by a tick that can be incredibly small, it attaches to human skin and starts sucking blood, like a mosquito.

The tell-tale sign of a tick bite is the bulls eye rash that appear on the skin shortly after being bitten.

Unfortunately, this rash does not appear every time and therefore it is not a reliable test to know whether there has been a tick bite or not.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER A TICK BITE?

The tick passes on a bacterium called Borrelia, which literally starts burrowing down through the skin and tissues. It is shaped like a screw (spirochete) and moves very fast like a drill. Soon the bacteria get covered by a bio film that acts like a “cloak of invisibility” because it prevents the immune system from identify them and therefore attacking them or expelling them.

SYMPTOMS OF LYME DISEASE

Symptoms can appear months after the first bite from a tick. Moreover, the symptoms of Lyme can look like many other conditions: from flu to fibromyalgia to dementia.

This makes Lyme disease incredibly hard to diagnose, while the patient is being diagnosed and treated for other conditions.

-muscle pain

-flu

-headaches

-brain fog

-fatigue

These are some of the symptoms you may experience.

Another aspect of this disease is the periodicity: symptoms seem to abate for a while and then start again without apparent reason. This is because the bacteria can lay dormant for a while and then “wake up” and start being active again and even grouping together, forming what looks like braided threads under the microscope.

DIAGNOSIS

Early diagnosis is important: the earlier you start treatment, the better chances you have of getting rid of it.

Unfortunately, because the symptoms can be confused with many other conditions and because blood tests for Lyme are not always reliable, patients start treatment when the disease is already deep seated.

Another possible obstacle is the fact that many people have no recollection of ever being bitten by ticks. This is because ticks are not the only insects that can transmit the borrelia bacteria: mosquitoes and other insects can also transmit this bacteria. Lyme can also be transmitted from mother to baby in the womb and sexually transmitted.

HOMEOPATHIC TREATMENT OF LYME DISEASE

Early stages: if you know that you have been bitten or it is likely, you can take Ledum 200c one dose every three hours on the first day and then space the doses out as time goes on: twice a day for 3-4 weeks.

If you find the tick, you can gently pick it with a fine pair of tweezers, without squashing it (as that would release the contents of its gut and therefore, the bacteria) and place it in a small jar with some alcohol. You can then take it to a lab to confirm its species and even make it into a homeopathic remedy.

Middle and late stages: the case needs to be taken by a homeopath and remedies prescribed according to the symptoms.

In general, I have seen good results with remedies like: Carcinosin, Rhus Tox, Arsenicum, combined with a healthy diet that includes super foods like various types of mushrooms.

Lyme disease is a very insidious condition that attacks the immune system from all angles, which means the treatment too must look at all possible angles: the goal is to strengthen the immune system to make sure the bacteria cannot go any deeper into the body, attacking the internal organs.
